Fifth grade students at James H. Boyd Intermediate School had the unique opportunity to hear from Senator Carl Marcellino on Nov. 3. The senator visited the school to speak about his history and why he became a senator. He also answered any questions that the students had.

Administrators from the district joined in the special occasion, including Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Maureen Hull, Director of Humanities Pamela Fine and board trustees James Tomeo and Heather Mammolito. Boyd PTA President Agapi Bell also stopped by to greet the senator.

During the assembly, Senator Marcellino spoke about his work in education and his position in passing important laws. He also provided words of wisdom to the students. “Make things happen in a kind manner,” he said.

At the conclusion of the assembly, Principal Dr. Denise Toscano led the senator around the building where handmade posters were displayed to welcome his arrival. He stopped in a number of classrooms to observe the programs and curriculum that his support has allowed the school to implement.

Dr. Toscano was proud to have Senator Marcellino come to the school to show students what legislators do and for him to share his leadership to public service. The school plans to have more special guests throughout the school year for students to learn from.
