Four Students Recognized for Outstanding Service

During the district’s Board of Education meeting on Oct. 20, the Board recognized four eighth-grade students from Girl Scout Troop 3128 for their outstanding volunteer service in Elwood Middle School. Principal Dr. Hugh Gigante presented Kathryn Kuroda, Stephanie Mullan, Daniella Marchese, and Lindsay Zolga to the Board and praised the students for the great work that they initiated throughout the building.

The Girl Scouts worked over the course of the last school year and the summer to raise money in an effort to provide the school with a variety of items beneficial to the building. They created effective ways to organize the school with the help of teachers as well. The students raised money to establish storage for the art room and purchased new sports equipment and games for recess. They also organized the family and consumer science room, and designed and built a new lost and found space.

In addition to being in Girl Scouts, the students participate in a variety of school organizations and team sports. Dr. Gigante spoke about their involvement in the Elwood community and their impressive schedules.

The students were congratulated by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert and board member Julia Fried. Each were presented with a certificate as a thank you for their dedication and hard work.

Congratulations Kathryn, Stephanie, Daniella, and Lindsay!
