The district is proud to announce that Elwood-John H. Glenn High School soccer coach Lou Hanner has recently been named the 2016 New York State Large School Soccer Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The organization awards three winners from each state to receive this prestigious honor. One winner from a large, small and private school is selected.

Mr. Hanner was nominated for the award by a coach from the Suffolk County Boys Soccer Coaches Association Board. “I felt very proud and honored to represent our program, school, Section XI and my family,” he said. “I was very happy for our players as well. It is because of them and the success that they have had that I was able to be nominated.”

For 19 years, Mr. Hanner has coached at the high school and made the district proud. “Lou Hanner is a man of the highest integrity. He teaches his students proper soccer and team skills, but most importantly he teaches his players how to be good men and leaders,” said Director of Athletics and Physical Education David Shanahan. “The life lessons he teaches will last a lifetime with all his current and former players.”
