National Merit Semifinalist

Senior at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School Named National Merit Semifinalist

Claudia Geib, a senior at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School in the Elwood Union Free School District, was named a Semifinalist in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. As a Semifinalist, Claudia has a chance to continue on in the competition to win one of approximately 8,400 Merit Scholarships.

To be named a Semifinalist, Claudia demonstrated a high academic record and outstanding scores on the Preliminary SAT test, in addition to receiving a positive recommendation by High School Principal Dr. Vincent Mulieri. She represents less than one percent of high school seniors across the country who obtained this great honor.

Claudia is involved in all aspects of high school life, including service as the Vice President of Habitat for Humanity and involvement in yearbook and video yearbook. Outside of school, she serves as a lifeguard and swim instructor for the YMCA and is the published author of Light Years, a fantasy novel for pre-teens.

Dr. Mulieri said, “Claudia is a caring and thoughtful student who works well with both teachers and other students. She excels inside and outside of school and we are very proud of her for this great accomplishment.”
