On Sunday afternoon at approximately 12:35 p.m., a fire broke out at the James H. Boyd Intermediate School. The building sustained exterior roof damage and minor interior damage. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries.

Nothing is more important than the safety of our students and staff. The district immediately contacted our insurance company and the building was quickly inspected, cleaned up, and deemed safe for school to be in session on Monday without any delay.

The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and the Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire and the district is fully cooperating with their investigation. At this time, fire officials are calling this incident suspicious.

We are very appreciative of the outstanding efforts of the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad and the Huntington Fire Marshal who quickly responded to this fire. We would also like to thank our lacrosse coach, who was conducting practice nearby, for calling in the fire to officials.

In addition, the district would like to also thank Bill Pastore, Rich Rouse, John Piersa, Dave DeSimone, Rich Milliken, Donald Rohrssen, Russell Tillman and Tom Umland for their hard work and dedication to the district for allowing us to open today.

If anyone has any information regarding this fire, please contact the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad at 631.852.6165.
