On January 14, students at James H. Boyd Intermediate School honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students gathered in the auditorium where they first viewed a short video presentation featuring excerpts of Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Fifth graders from Mr. Kelly’s class then gave a brief overview of Dr. King’s life, including the challenges he faced to overcome inequality.

Students from Miss Gates’ fifth-grade class also participated by each sharing a small portion of Dr. King’s speech, which was one of the defining moments of the American Civil Rights Movement when first delivered by Dr. King on August 28, 1963. Boyd’s celebration concluded with select third, fourth, and fifth-grade students leading the crowd in singing “Martin Luther King” and “We Shall Overcome.”
