The Elwood Middle School's National Junior Honor Society, along with advisor Diane Locascio and teachers Wendy Braxton, Jim Morris and Brian Bissenger, took a trip up to Albany to visit the New York State Capitol on March 2, 2011.  The students took a tour of the capitol building and met with several elected officials.  Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, Senator Carl Marcellino and Assemblyman Andrew Raia met with the students.  The honor society was provided with an opportunity to ask questions regarding important issues such as budget concerns and consolidation.  The National Junior Honor Society also attended the Senate and Assembly sessions where they were recognized by Senator Marcellino and Assmblyman Raia.  This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience democracy in action.  There will be a presentation of the trip at the Board of Education meeting in April.
