A team of 10 Elwood students entering grades six through nine in the fall took part in the 17th Annual Suffolk County Battle of the Books competition held at Stony Brook University on Aug. 10. Competing as “The Elwood Things,” the team members were assigned eight books to read over the summer. They participated in weekly study sessions during which they quizzed one another on the books being read.

During the competition, the students tested their knowledge against other Suffolk library teams. The Elwood students came in third place for the region and were awarded first-place medals for "Best Spirit."
