Students at Harley Avenue Primary and James H. Boyd Intermediate schools recently experienced Journeys into American Indian Territory, an interactive educational program that brought the culture of Native American civilization to life.
Students had the opportunity to get a glimpse of what life was like for a child of the Plains Indians. The program also examined how the tribes’ roles were defined and how they respected the animals and land around them.
Students explored a variety of shelters, such as the traditional longhouse, as well as a museum of authentic artifacts including musical instruments, utensils and Native American toys. Also on display were animal cloths and skins used for protection from the elements.
