Fifth-grade students in Christina Tellekamp’s class at James H. Boyd Intermediate School participated in a lesson that combined their studies of heroes with Women’s History Month. As part of a social studies lesson, each student researched a woman who has a made a difference in their lives. They then prepared an essay that provided an overview of their chosen hero, as well as the impact that person has had in their life, and presented it to their classmates. The students’ essays covered a range of famous women, including Mother Teresa, Billie Jean King, Oprah Winfrey and Sacagawea.
