Students at Elwood Middle School united for a unique project geared at combining an interest in gardening with lessons learned during English class. Through a grant received by the Elwood Education Endowment, teacher Danielle Whitcomb initiated a special project with the school’s garden club. Club members worked alongside students in Megan Gieser’s eighth-grade English classes to beautify the school’s garden. The eighth-graders recently finished reading the novel “Seekfolks,” in which a community garden is central to the story. The Elwood students worked together to plant many of the items that are described in the novel’s garden in their own school garden.
