Elwood Middle School orchestra students attended the Long Island Music Festival at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on May 30, where they performed before judges and received top honors.

The orchestra received comments, a grade and a rating from two judges after performing several selections from their spring concert program, including "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," "Viva la Vida" and "Beethoven, Inc."

After their performance, the orchestra was given a grade of 98 out of 100 and a rating of Superior, which is the highest rating a performance can receive.

According to orchestra teacher Diana Gotzen-Berg, the students received assistance with their technique from one of the judges following their performance.

After the festival, the students spent the remainder of the day at Adventureland to celebrate their top-notch performance.
