Good Day Elwood Parents,

Our school district needs our help. We are asking parents to take a moment to write a few handwritten letters to the Governor urging him to support the repeal of the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).

Elwood has lost approximately $5 million in state aid over the past four years because of the GEA. This annual practice is harmful to quality education on Long Island and is not acceptable to taxpayers. The release of funds due to our District will allow us to continue providing an excellent Elwood education and enrich further opportunities for our children. This is not about curriculum or local school district policies and discussions. This is about receiving funding that has been taken away and funding we really need.

Each person in your household is encouraged to write a letter. (Husband & wife as well as children can write individual letters.) We welcome and ask for the support of *all* Elwood residents. Our hope is that we have 100 handwritten letters by the end of next week. If you have any questions, please contact Nikki Crowley (5crowleys@gmail.com), Sarah Tella (sbtella@optimum.net) or Emily Porter (esp322@gmail.com). The sample letters in the link below are just suggestions. Please feel free to word your letter as you see fit. Together, we really can make a difference.
