In an effort to provide parents with the knowledge and tools to academically support their children at home, the Elwood Union Free School District hosted “Elwood Parent University” on January 15, for parents who have children in Harley Avenue Primary School and James H. Boyd Intermediate School.
Led by teacher volunteers and administration, parents took on the role of students and attended two 30-minute sessions. During this time, parents engaged in authentic lessons in literature, mathematics, writing, digital technology and asked questions along the way.
Focused on a “love for reading” concept, Parent University also offered parents numerous strategies on ways to support their child’s reading.
