To enhance students’ learning experience, James H. Boyd Intermediate School fourth-grade teacher Nancy Agostini, along with Principal Denise Toscano, Director of Humanities Pamela Fine and other fourth-grade educators, created an interactive museum as a visual accompaniment to the fourth-grade history unit on Colonial America and the Revolutionary War.
Dedicating an entire hallway to history, the museum includes authentic photos, primary documents, coins, maps, newspapers, clothes, musket balls and other items that students could touch and try on for a truly interactive experience. To obtain items for the museum, the Boyd Intermediate School PTA rented the Long Island Spy Ring kit from the Three Village Historical Society.
“The gallery will remain on display for the remainder of the unit for students to enjoy and experience the excitement of American history,” said Agostini.
