As a culmination to their unit on community service employees, students in Lisa Rosenthal’s class at James H. Boyd Intermediate School received a visit from the Greenlawn Fire Department and a Suffolk County police officer.

During the visit, students learned about fire safety and the role firefighters play in helping people in the community. While interacting with the firefighters, students had an up-close experience with a fire truck and tried their hand at spraying the fire hose.

Suffolk County police officer Dave Weinerman taught students about the importance of law enforcement and the type of equipment he needs for his job. Each student had the opportunity to sit on Officer Weinerman’s Suffolk County Police motorcycle and ask questions about the types of responsibilities his job entails.
