Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Sharika Krish received a $1,000 scholarship from the Long Island Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council for demonstrating a commitment to enhancing and promoting sustainability in the community.

Available to high school seniors on Long Island, the U.S. Green Council of Long Island scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated academic prowess, inspiration, generosity and benevolence in eco-friendly concepts.  To apply for the scholarship, Krish provided her high school transcript, a letter of recommendation and wrote two academic essays.

During the June Board of Education meeting, Krish was recognized for her success in the scholarship competition. Additionally, Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern presented Krish with a proclamation from the Town of Huntington. In the fall, Krish will attend Nazareth College in Rochester and pursue a major in physical therapy.
