For more than 30 years, the district has provided a summer string program for beginners and continuing string students in the third and fourth grade. Orchestra teacher Karen Gellert offers students lessons to develop and hone their skills during the three-week program.

This year, from late June to July 17, Gellert and guest clinician Chelsea Winters worked with student-musicians practicing the viola, violin and cello. To conclude the program, students performed for their families pieces from the Suzuki “Violin School” book, including “Lightly Row” and “Song of Wind.”

“I feel that it is a great opportunity for the string kids to start or to continue over the summer,” said Gellert of the program.
