As part of their physical education unit, Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students demonstrated their knowledge of CPR through a hands-on simulation experience.
During the weeklong study unit, students participated in group discussions and learned about CPR protocols and procedures. Physical education teacher Dave Shanahan led students through a step-by-step demonstration on how to respond when they witness a person in a cardiac emergency. Working in groups of three or four, students exhibited the proper form for administering chest compressions as well as checking a person’s airway on “Anne” manikins.
As per the new New York State requirement, high school seniors must be taught hands-only CPR. Beginning next year, all Elwood high school students will participate in four hands only CPR training units by the time they graduate.
