Maira Riaz, a senior at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School, dedicated six weeks this summer to study at Brookhaven National Laboratory conducting research for her project, “Analysis of Deep Learning Using PyTorch.” Maira was accepted into the highly competitive Brookhaven National Laboratory High School Research Program and mentored by BNL scientist Abid Malik.
According to Eileen Kelly-Gorman, Elwood’s director of math, science and technology, Maira has a strong interest in studying computer science in the future and has already taken two computer sciences classes at the high school. She will continue her research this year through her AP Research and Science Research courses at John Glenn.
