Members of Elwood-John H. Glenn High School’s World Language Honor Society have made it their mission to give back to families in need this holiday season. To do so, students have partnered with Operation Christmas Child to pack shoe boxes filled with school supplies, personal hygiene products, toys and a personal note to be donated to families in need across the globe.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support to victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine.

Each year, more than 80,000 volunteers across the country help to prepare shoe boxes for distribution and international shipment. In 2019, more than 10.5 million shoe boxes were collected throughout Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

This year, John Glenn students packed a total of 35 shoe boxes, which were then delivered to Island Christian Church in East Northport to be distributed to children around the world in need.

World Language Honor Society advisers Nicole Correia and Nicole Gendjoian agreed, “Our students went above and beyond this year and we appreciate the thought and time that went into filling each box.”
