Elwood-John H. Glenn High School student Gianna Cook was recently named a 2022 Friedlander Upstander Award winner. The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation and Board of Directors of the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County presented Cook with her award at the HMTC’s Tolerance Benefit at Westbury Manor on May 16. She was also presented with a citation from State Sen. Anna Cook.

“It was a big accomplishment,” Cook said. “It’s a step forward and a new chapter in my life. I feel like being an upstander and being able to share my story is a start in the right direction of sharing and helping with suicide and sexual assault and things like that. It’s the right step forward in sharing people’s stories and helping people out.”
