Tricia Sihksnel has been appointed as an assistant principal at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School, effective Aug. 8. Sihksnel will be filling a position created due to the retirement of Leroy Cole.

Sihksnel had previously worked since 2013 as a Spanish teacher at Cold Spring Harbor Junior/Senior High School in the Cold Spring Harbor Central School District. In that position, she also served as the New Staff Mentoring Program coordinator, leading a districtwide professional development initiative for over 50 staff members. Additionally, she served as an on-site trainer and developer in the area of educational technology and best practices in special education, and was varsity cheerleading assistant coach and junior high school boys and girls track coach.

A Commack resident, Sihksnel received both her master’s degree in special education and bachelor’s degree in Spanish from St. Joseph’s College. She is a recent graduate of the Stony Brook University graduate program for administrative leadership, where she participated in the Elwood-based cohort.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the Elwood community, ”Sihksnel said. “My goal as assistant principal is to continue to provide a rich experience for students at John Glenn High School alongside the administrative team, teachers and staff. I am looking forward to serving the Elwood community for many years to come.”
