This fall, students in Mr. McGuire’s College Modern Engineering course at John H. Glenn High School completed several projects to beautify the campuses of the Elwood Union Free School District.  
Using ColorCore boards in Elwood signature colors, students constructed replacement signs for Harley Avenue Primary School, James H. Boyd Intermediate School and the district office.  Students measured the existing signs, designed digital files using Autocad software and cut and engraved the signs using a CNC Router. Elwood’s building and grounds department assisted with taking down the old signage and putting up the new ones.
At Harley Avenue, the “Kinder Garden” sign was also in need of repair.  Students drafted their own designs to replace the old sign using Autocad and the digital renderings were compiled onto a voting ballot for students at Harley Avenue to vote on. In the end, the students selected a design by high school junior, Max Stein. Max’s design was cut on the CNC router and is now on display outside of Harley Avenue in the “Kinder Garden.”  
Students have also been using the vinyl printer at the high school to design signage around the high school building. Window decals have replaced printed signs on our windows and doors, offering visitors directions for entering the building.
