Superintendent Search
Due to the retirement of Mr. Peter Scordo, the Elwood Board of Education
has begun its search for its new superintendent. On September 10, 2015,
the Elwood Board of Education voted to enlist Western Suffolk BOCES to
facilitate the search process. Western Suffolk BOCES is very experienced
and has a history of success. Western Suffolk BOCES also provides this
service for no additional cost.
Community and staff members are being asked and encouraged to provide
their input through an online survey through November 9, 2015. Areas
such as rating the importance of a potential candidate’s qualifications
and personal characteristics, as well as his/her abilities and
experience with school staffing, instruction, board relations, district
operations and finance will be polled. The survey can be accessed by
clicking on the link listed below. You may also get a paper copy of the
survey at the district office or the Elwood Public Library.
Representatives from a variety of district and community stakeholder
groups will also have an opportunity to meet individually with the
search facilitators in November 2015 to provide additional input. An
informational meeting will be held on Nov. 12 at 7 pm in the Elwood
Middle School auditorium. The Board of Education will greatly value and
consider the stakeholder input and community survey results in their
selection of the new superintendent. Recruitment efforts will be
extensive, and will conclude by April 2016.Thank you for your
