Delayed Opening & School Closing Information

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We will continue using a DELAYED SCHOOL OPENING procedure this year when the weather in the early morning hours is uncertain. On such inclement weather days, when it appears that a delayed opening rather than an outright closing would be practical, schools will open ONE or TWO HOURS LATER THAN the normal starting time. Bus transportation of students will follow the same delayed schedule. For example, if a child normally boards the bus at 8:10 a.m., the time would be changed to 9:10 a.m. during a ONE-HOUR DELAY, or 10:10 a.m. during a TWO-HOUR DELAY. The school day will end at the regular time and transportation home will follow the regular afternoon bus schedule.

Before-school practices for band, orchestra and chorus are always canceled in the event of a delayed school opening.

The delayed opening procedure also applies to all Elwood children who attend private or parochial schools and to all students who attend a BOCES program.

It is important to listen to the radio stations for school closing or delayed opening announcements. In the event weather conditions deteriorate, A DELAYED OPENING CAN BE CHANGED TO A CLOSING. If you hear an announcement of a delayed opening, stay tuned to see if there is any change. The sites to check are:
