The Elwood Union Free School District is proud to announce that John H. Glenn High School was among the top ranked best high schools by U.S. News & World Report. The Elwood Road school was ranked sixth in Suffolk County, 75th among 1,217 other New York high schools, 99th in the New York Metro area, and 808 among 17,792 schools in the National Rankings.

Schools are ranked based on students’ performances on state-required tests, graduation and college preparedness. According to the report, Elwood’s college readiness was ranked 462 nationally and 64th in New York. The data analyzes seniors who took and passed at least one Advanced Placement or IB exam. Additionally, the school’s graduation rate, which surveys the proportion of entering ninth graders who graduated four academic years later, was ranked 2,032 nationally and 101 in New York. The school’s graduation rate currently stands at 98% – well above the state median of 83.4%.

"We are pleased that John H. Glenn High School and the entire Elwood School District continues to be recognized appropriately as one of the premiere systems in the Nation,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert said. “This is work that begins at Harley Avenue and is pervasive throughout the district. We congratulate our students, faculty, staff and the entire community on this substantial achievement."
