Congratulations to Elwood-John H. Glenn High School rising seniors, Rithika Narayan and Juliana Weber for winning the Huntington League of Women Voters’ virtual civic engagement video contest.

In their dynamic video, “The Importance of Voting for High School Students,” Rithika and Juliana discussed the need for young eligible voters to participate in the upcoming election. They encouraged their peers to head to the polls on Nov. 3, complete an absentee ballot or partake in early voting, available Oct. 24 – Nov. 1.

The soon-to-be-seniors, both of whom are enrolled in Laureen Kennedy’s Advanced Placement government and politics course, will work closely with their teacher to promote a voter registration program to make it easier for seniors to become more politically involved.

Rithika and Juliana explained how the fate of the job market, as well as student loan debt, can often be determined by a single vote.

“The only way to reap the benefits of our democracy is to make voting a habit.” Rithika said.
