A total of 21 intrepid young orators took to the auditorium stage at Elwood’s James H. Boyd Intermediate School for two hours on June 17, giving memorized speeches in front of their peers as part of the school’s Speech-a-Thon. The speech sources included Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Patrick Henry, Sojourner Truth, and Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.

“Executing an event like this with such precision requires a concerted effort, and as you can imagine, it takes a lot of effort and hard work,” said teacher Marsha McLeod, who organized the Speech-a-Thon. “These kids worked diligently, both at home and at school, and deserve a round of applause.”
