James H. Boyd Intermediate School students honored the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through poetry, song, photographs and Dr. King’s own words during an assembly on Jan. 17.

The program’s masters of ceremonies were Student Council President Daniel Rourke and vice president Alexandra Haddad. Students watched a video clip of photos of Dr. King, combined with audio clips of him addressing audiences of civil rights believers.

Students also took to the podium and shared biographical presentations of Dr. King, as well as excerpts from his “I Have a Dream” speech.

In closing, a select third-, fourth- and fifth-grade chorus, led by music teacher Linda Romano, sang a harmonious version of the song that became an anthem for the civil rights movement, “We Shall Overcome.”
