To inspire students’ love for reading, James H. Boyd Intermediate School celebrated National Children’s Book Week from May 4-8, coordinated by the school’s reading department.
Students had the opportunity to show off their creativity through different reading activities each day of the week. On Monday, they made bookmarks based on their favorite books. The next day, they read with a partner from a different class, and on Wednesday, they created “wanted posters” for their favorite book characters. Thursday’s activity encouraged students to interview their parents about reading, and the week closed with “Read a T-Shirt Day” on Friday, during which students and faculty wore T-shirts with words.
Facilitated by a community effort, district administrators visited Boyd students as guest readers to share their favorite books. Following the read-aloud, the guest reader led a book discussion so that students could share their thoughts and ask pertinent questions.
