Domenica Piccoli and Michael Szokoli, seniors at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School, were selected among the graduating Class of 2016 to receive the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Suffolk Zone Physical Education Leadership Award.

Each year, every high school in Suffolk County recognizes its top male and female physical education students based on NYSAHPERD’s criteria. Students nominated must exemplify a supreme level of physical education and scholastic achievement, demonstrate leadership in school-wide activities and serve as outstanding role models for their peers and within the community.

A special dinner reception was held at the Hyatt Regency on Dec. 2 to honor the scholar athletes. Each honoree of the evening received an award certificate and a gold medal. Accompanying the Elwood students at the dinner were their parents, Superintendent of Schools Peter Scordo, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gary Furman and physical education teachers Tracy Ott and David Shanahan.
