Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Matthew Bove will continue his stellar lacrosse career at the collegiate level next fall, signing a letter of intent to attend Manhattan College in the Bronx during a Nov. 9 ceremony in John Glenn’s athletic offices. While playing for the Division I Jaspers program, he plans to major in business.

Bove, who plays defense, has started on the John Glenn varsity lacrosse team since eighth grade, and has also played on one of the area’s most competitive travel teams, the Team 91 LI Boys 2023 Bandits. His many accolades include 2018 World Series Youth Lacrosse champion, 2018 All-World first team, 2019 Maverik Showtime All-Star and the James Dunn Award for dedication, hard work and commitment in the pursuit of academic excellence. He also has played high school basketball and soccer.

“Matthew is an exceptional athlete and an exceptional lacrosse player,” Athletic Director Dave Shanahan said.

“We are proud of you, and I’m sure your family’s proud of you,” Principal Corey McNamara told Bove. “Pride is such a powerful tool in athletics and in academics, so continue to take that pride with you to Manhattan, but always remember where you came from.”

“I am truly honored,” Bove said. “It’s always been my dream to play Division I lacrosse and having this opportunity is everything I’ve ever wanted.”
