High-achieving students from Elwood-John H. Glenn High School were honored at the Elwood School District Board of Education’s Nov. 9 meeting, led by Superintendent Kelly Fallon.
John Glenn Principal Corey McNamara first presented Class of 2024 valedictorian Christopher Sanelli and salutatorian Lauren LaMena.
“Both Chris and Lauren are involved in extracurricular activities, have strong family support and infectious smiles, are a pleasure to be around and are well-liked by their peers, and they both have taken the most rigorous course load we have to offer at John Glenn High School,” McNamara said. “With the amount of AP courses that both have taken, they could potentially earn a full year’s worth of college credit and will graduate high school with a transcript that has almost half of their required credits being at the college level. It is impressive and absolutely incredible for them to end their high school careers with close to a 100 average while enrolled in this type of coursework. In my opinion, however, what is most impressive about our top two students is not their amazing academic accomplishments, but who they are as individuals.”
Also honored were Girl Scout Troop 2597 members Nicole Dietz, Ella Drucker, Grace Murphy and Abby Taft, for earning the Silver Award, which requires over 50 hours of community service. Reflecting their bond and friendship with each other, the four students’ project was to create a quiet space to read and draw.
“We are proud of you and know you will continue to serve as outstanding role models for all students within the Elwood community,” McNamara told the Scouts. “Thank you for sharing your passion with us, and please know the real celebration comes from the positive input and impact you have made.”
