Forty-five students from Elwood-John H. Glenn High School’s World Language Honor Society and Nicole Correia’s American Sign Language classes visited James H. Boyd Intermediate School on May 23 to teach world languages to the younger students in grades 3-5. Each class at Boyd received one to three different lessons presented in Spanish, Italian and ASL, including topics such as basic greetings, weather, calendar, sports, food, school and animals. The WLHS students were required to create lesson plans, slides and a game for each lesson.

“This was a way to showcase the languages that John Glenn has to offer and engage our younger students in a different way,” said Nicole Gendjoian, who serves as WLHS co-adviser along with Correia. “It was also a great learning experience for the WLHS students to be ‘teachers’ for the day. The Boyd teachers loved seeing their former students all grown up.”
