Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Matt Triolo has taken over the No. 1 spot as Long Island’s all-time leading goal scorer in boys lacrosse.
The attackman has had a remarkable five-year varsity career. After joining the team as an eighth grader, he scored 63 goals as a freshman, earning All-County recognition. Triolo then went on to score 87 points as a sophomore, earning All-County honors again and 89 points as a junior, earning him honorable mention All-American. In his senior year, he racked up a whopping 108 points, including 68 goals and 40 assists, and was named an All-American. He also played three years of football, two on the varsity team, earning All-County and All-State honors as a junior before missing his senior season due to a torn shoulder. Triolo will play lacrosse this fall on a scholarship at the University of Delaware.
“History is history, and it could be changed, but at the end of the day, as of right now, I’m No. 1 ever on Long Island,” Triolo said. “It’s pretty cool to accomplish that. It’s not just me going out there and playing, this is the result of a lot of hard work.”
“From my standpoint, Matt is one of the best athletes we have had come through John Glenn in recent memory,” Athletic Director Dave Shanahan said. “He is an outstanding student athlete and an excellent young man, as well. He comes from a strong family of lacrosse players. He’s had an incredible high school career, and we are very proud of all the things he has accomplished here at John Glenn.”
