Elwood-John H. Glenn High School’s varsity wrestling team won the title at the Suffolk County Division II Dual Meet Championship, held on Jan. 21 at Bay Shore High School.

Facing a tough Port Jefferson team in the finals, Glenn (14-6) fell behind 24-8. Guided by coach TJ Brocking, the Knights rallied to win four of their last five to earn a 32-27 victory and the team’s first title since 2015. Moving up two weight classes, senior Anthony Mirando beat Port Jeff’s Cade Delgado to give the Knights their first lead of the meet, before the Royals retook it. Glenn wrestler Kevin Vides then pinned Braden Cesarski to secure the championship. The county victory earned Glenn a spot at the NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Championships, held on Jan. 28 at SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

Tommy Aiello is 28-0 and ranked first in New York State in his weight class, while Anthony Mirando is 28-1 and ranked fourth. The Knights are currently ranked fourth in the state.
