Elwood-John H. Glenn High School’s record-breaking student-athletes Amanda Howard, Ava Mule and Matthew Triolo were recognized by the Elwood School District Board of Education at its May 9 meeting, introduced by Athletic Director Dave Shanahan.

First up was senior softball pitcher Amanda Howard, one of the all-time softball strikeout leaders in John Glenn football history.

“Not counting the last two games, Amanda has pitched 270 in the third innings,” Shanahan said. “She has 462 strikeouts, an average of 11.963 per seven innings and 8.717 per game. Amanda could be our all-time softball pitching strikeout leader. Additionally, Amanda has a .600 batting average this year.”

Next was sophomore lacrosse player Matthew Triolo, one of the leading boys lax scorers on Long Island.

“Matt is an excellent lacrosse attacker,” Shanahan said. “He achieved the 100-goal plateau mark on April 10 versus Eastport-South Manor, an unbelievable milestone in lacrosse, and even more incredible as a sophomore.”

Finally, senior lacrosse player Ava Mule was honored for also joining the 100-goal club.

“Ava scored her 100th career goal on May 3 versus Southampton,” Shanahan said. “She has established herself as an exceptional lacrosse player and leads by example on and off the field.”
